Scott
C. Patchan an experienced and highly regarded battlefield guide and historian.
He is a leading authority on the 1864 Shenandoah Valley campaigns. He
is the author of Shenandoah Summer: The 1864 Valley Campaign, The Forgotten
Fury: The Battle of Piedmont, Virginia and Longstreet’s Attack and
the Struggle for Chinn Ridge. He has served as a research consultant and
contributing writer for Time Life’s Voices of the Civil War.
Ted Alexander is the Chief Historian at the Antietam
National Battlefield and he is a well-known and sought-after speaker for
Civil War programs. He has written four books on the Civil War and over
200 articles and book reviews for Civil War publications including Blue
and Gray Magazine and the Civil War Times Illustrated. He is an authority
on cavalry tactics during the Gettysburg Campaign and is the founder and
coordinator of the Chambersburg Civil War Seminars.
Greg Starbuck is the Executive Director of Historic
Sandusky, the Lynchburg home used as Headquarters for Union General David
Hunter during the 1864 Battle of Lynchburg. He has worked as a contract
employee for the Museum of the Confederacy, the Mariner’s Museum,
and the Jamestown National Historic Site. He has participated in numerous
historical films and documentaries and, most recently, advised costume
designers on the films Gods & Generals and an Cold Mountain on military
headgear.
Ben F. Fordney is the Director of the Institute.
He has taught American, Western, and World history at James Madison University,
Bridgewater College, and the Blue Ridge Community College. He is the author
of Stoneman at Chancellorsville: The Coming of Age of Union Cavalry and
George Stoneman: A Biography of the Union General. He is Program Chairman
of the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Round Table.
